INTRODUCTION

ZIPEI's Contemporary jewellery is a hidden gem that stops you in your tracks. We've been captivated by her genderless sculptural pieces at The Big Design Market and Finders Keepers, finding ourselves repeatedly drawn back to purchase her designs for everyday use.

Today, we're thrilled to bring you an exclusive studio visit. Nestled in the bustling CBD's Century Building on Swanston Street, this pragmatic creative graciously welcomes us, offering a glimpse into her design process.

ABOUT ZIPEI

Founded in 2019, ZIPEI’s journey began at “Home,” with much of the early work taking place in a home studio during the Covid lockdown. Her designs poetically capture everyday moments: the texture of a rustic concrete wall, a breeze through translucent blinds, the softness of bed sheets. These often-overlooked details create unique sensations that define daily life.

ZIPEI’s approach embraces the beauty of imperfections, experimentation, and unique encounters. Her work has evolved from two initial streams: soft organic folded forms and structural architectural forms.

Each piece of jewelry is designed and handcrafted by the artist in her studio, focusing on the wearer’s experience and a sense of belonging, regardless of gender.

The name ZIPEI, which is also Summer’s birth name, means “the (jade) that you are wearing” in Chinese, derived from The Book of Songs. In essence, ZIPEI means “you wear.”
